 It was a sudden decision and surprise, but Israel's first channel has decided: Boaz Mauda has been chosen to represent Israel at the Eurovision Song Contest!
The organizers of the Pre Eurovision Song Contest were exploring which artists would be allowed to participate, let all artists enter the contest or allow only participants from the popular show Kochav Nolad to participate. After rumours that several participants of Kochav Nolad 5 and several from previous shows would compete against each other, the organizers realized it was a bad idea because many of the Kochav Nolad participants have been criticized by the people for refusing to do their army service. It has been decided today that the Pre Eurovision Contest will take on the form like last year with Teapacks. The organizers of the show have decided that Kochav Nolad 5 winner, Boaz Mauda, will represent Israel during the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade, Serbia on May 2008. The main reason for this sudden decision and change of plans is that Israel's first channel, whom is in charge of the Pre Eurovision Song Contest, lacks the funding to have a full contest. Instead, Boaz Mauda will present 5 different songs during the Pre Eurovision Song Contest from which the people can choose and vote on. In the past a Kochav Nolad participant has represented Israel at the Eurovision Song Contest, which was Shiri Maimon that ended up that the 4th place with her song The Silence That Remains. Boaz Mauda is 20 years old and from the moshav Elyakim. He won Kochav Nolad 5 with 50% of the votes.
