Harel Moyal, the winner of the show A Star Is Born 2, is celebrating now the finalizing of his second album and the release of the first single from it.
The first song is named Don’t Know You. And the album that will follow it is due to come out in August.
The media are speculating about the reason for the decision of releasing the single and offering it for sale at the shops, while at the same time the beginning of the 5th season of A Star Is Born will start in Israel. Moyal knows that if it wasn’t for A Star Is Born, his rise to stardom would have taken much longer, and now as he releases the first song from his upcoming album he also has many things to say about it and about life in general. That too is a bit risky for products of A Star Is Born, especially if you look at what happened to Jacko Eisenberg, when he decided that winning the contest and a musical career wasn’t enough and opened his mouth and expressed his feelings on different matters.
Harel has decided nevertheless to speak his mind, as he wants to release the stigma of ‘an instant talent’ that has stuck to many of the participants of A Star Is Born. Harel: “I don’t have any complaints about anything to anyone, if I had things to say in the past and I didn’t say them, it was all because of me, I decided that I don’t want to share my opinions with the fans and kept it down till now. Because of the show I grew up instantly and that’s a process that can hurt you. The song, Middle Of The Night In The Village which was the first single from the previous album, was originally named Our Situation. It was about the situation of Israel in my opinion, but eventually I changed the title name because I didn’t want people to say who does he think he is talking this way about our country?! The song spoke about many of my personal experiences. The upcoming album isn’t going to be a compromised album like the previous one that reached a gold status. The songs on this album have a meaning, I have an opinion and I’m not about to compromise it. I think the 2nd album dares much more, its more rock and it dares with the lyrics, music, singing and even the production”.
The first single is named Don’t Know You. On the cover of the single he is totally different from his previous image, his wet longer hair has changed to a short hair cut, and he's standing with a frozen and still face, wearing a T-shirt with his own portrait on it, and in the portrait he is shouting with anger. For those that didn’t understand, the message is that Moyal looks quiet and still on the outside but inside he is all confused and about to explode from anger.
Harel: “Generally this song could be explained in many ways, but actually you should take it as it is and translate it as its written. Its about people that talk about me, tell things about me and they don’t even know me. Before the song came out I was asked a lot by people; where did I disappear too, but actually I didn’t go anywhere. These last 8 months I was working on the album in the studio with the musical producer Nadav Biton. Indeed I didn’t go to much to all kinds of parties and events I was invited too and didn’t have concerts, but I didn’t stop making music. Even some of my family members asked me how is it that nowadays sometimes for even a month there is no article about me in the papers. I tell them that here in Israel people have got used to see me at a high frequency and once that rate is changed people think I have disappeared. I wanted to work on the album quietly and although it doesn’t serve me as an artist I preferred to work on the album with lots of concentration. When I started working on the album I didn’t have a list of songs ready for recording like I did with the previous album. It all went rather slow and many songs were written and composed during the process of making the album, even the first single: Don't Know You, was made and added to the album at the last moment.
Q: What was the negative side of winning the contest A Star Is Born? A: Everyone that sees you in the street, put themselves in your place. Neighbors that saw me for example at the local grocery store were telling me, instead of you I would be busy now making money, I should appear much more on TV etc, now go and explain to them that I am busy enough with making music. Also on the gossip TV show, Guy Pines, they showed me eating Falafel, that doesn’t mean that I asked to be photographed for it, I didn’t ask to become a model. When people ask me where you’ve gone to in the last months, I hope they mean where I have gone to musically and not that they miss my image in the gossip columns.
Q: Is it different to instantly write and record a song than to use a song that’s sitting in the drawers for 2 years? A: Its much more direct, you don’t have to much time to think about it and change things, eventually you say what’s really important to you right now.
Q: Are you going to watch A Star Is Born 5? A: Maybe if I will have the time for it. This last weekend I couldn’t make it, because I was busy preparing for my first big concert after an absence of 6 months from the stage. We also recorded a show at the Theater Club for a DVD, for which I don’t even know when it will be released. It was also the first time I performed the songs from the new album in front of a live audience and I was really excited about all of it.
Q: The biggest project you participated on, beside recording your albums, was the theater show Like In A Movie. Do you think you will continue acting in the future? A: I really hope so, I just love it, I would like my next experience to be in front of the camera, TV or Cinema, doesn’t matter which one.
Q: There is a rumor that you were offered the lead role in the re-production of the very successful musical play Casablan, is that true? A: It hasn’t reached the level where it has become an official offer, but I understand that the producers thought about different prospects. Yehoram Gaon, who played in the movie and in the original musical play, offered them to take me. I have to admit that its really a huge compliment that he considered me to fit the role.
