Watch and listen to the beautiful performance of Rita: The people of Israel were also able to choose the best Israeli song symbolizing 60 years of the state of Israel. No, it's not the popular song Jerusalem Of Gold, but the winning song is called A Sad Melody, or also known as Will You Hear My Voice, from which the lyrics were written by the famous poet Rachel Bluwstein. The song has a sad tone and brings up feelings of nostalgia among the Israeli people. We searched up a video of the original song by Josie Katz, a video of Rita performing the same song recently and the song lyrics. Here you can find a new version, covered by the wonderful singer Rita: Sad Melody Will you hear my voice my far-away one Will you hear my voice where-ever you are A voice calling with strength, crying in my blood. Over time it sends a blessing. Planet/land so big and has many roads we meet for a moment, separate forever. A man asks, but his legs fail, He can never find that which he has lost. The last of my days is already/so close perhaps Already/so near is the day of goodbye tears. I will wait for you until my life will end , like Rachel's wait for her lover. Lyrics from hebrewsongs.com --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Shlomo Artzi and Rita were just two singers of the long list that performed last evening. Many more of Israel's popular artists were also present to perform the top 10 singles chosen for the 'big chart of Israel'. Ninet Tayeb is back with a great new look and is becoming a real 'rock chick'. HaYehudim bring you the most unique hard rock cover of the beautiful song Jerusalem of Gold and Keren Peles performs a cover of the Mashina hit single that ended up at number 11 in the 60-years Israel chart. Ninet Tayeb performed a duet with the rock band RockFour. The song is called Small Country, which is originally from the popular band of the mid-1970's called Kaveret. The band Kaveret is considered as a breakthrough in the pop/rock scene and Israel and represented Israel at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974. The lyrics of the song Jerusalem Of Gold were written by Naomi Shemer in 1967 and in the same year it became Song of the Year. The song has since been covered by great artists like Ofra Haza and even appeared in the Oscar winning movie Schindler's List. This year a new style has been added by the band HaYehudim that bring you a hard rock version. Keren Peles was chosen to perform the song So Why Do I Need Politics Now? of the popular band Mashina. Mashina is one of the most popular rock bands in Israel since 1984 and has recently released a new album that already turned gold. The band The Mind's Church (Knessiat HaShechel) performed the song The Snake's Slough of Meir Ariel. Ariel was a famous singer-songwriter that wrote for artists like David Broza, Rita, Arik Einstein and his childhood friend Shalom Chanuch. Ariel was known for his poetic use of the Hebrew language in his song yrics. Ivri Lider was present to perform the song Waiting For Mashiach by Shalom Chanuch, which ended up at number 17 in the chart. Shalom Chanuch recorded the album with the same title in 1985 and became his most successful album. The evening was filled with many more performances from artists like Shai Gabso, Sarit Hadad, Yehudit Ravitz and Shaike Levy and Gabri Banai from HaGashash HaChiver.
