Vegetarian/vegan in Israel? 4 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 0
Hey everybody!
I am thinking of going to Israel as a volonteer, when I finish school. As a vegan I wonder if it is easy to find vegetarian/vegan food in Israel?

How can you ask thaaaaaat? Israel is THE heaven for vegetarian fooooood!!
Okey i dont know about vegan, cause thats really strict right? But vegetarian food is easy to find..first of all think of the huge variety of salads, and i dont mean just the regular lettuce salads, but eggplant, courgette, humus, mushrooms and a whollee lot more with oriental spices in them. Of course you have the famous falafel balls which are vegetarian and you can eat a pita with it on every corner of the street. Also you have Aroma which is a popular big chain of restaurants in Israel with fresh bread and lots of options to put on the bread. You have Shakshuka which is a great egg dish with fresh tomatoe sauce (not sure this is vegan?). Anddd you have soooo many white cheeses in Israel with absolutely great flavors (cottage, feta, bulgarian, lebaneh soo onnn). And its no problem to go to Italian restaurants and stuff yourself with roasted eggplant covered with lebaneh cheese and then pasta with vegetables or different cheeses..of course you have great Sushi places that serve also vegetarian sushi and..do you really want me to continue? Cause im drooling over computer here! Trust me..YOU WILL NOT STARVE FROM HUNGER!!

OMG it seems like I have found my vegetarian heaven LOL!
Yes, being vegan is pretty strict, I don't eat anything that comes from animals which means that I (apart from meat and fish) also exclude cheese, eggs and simply any milk products but I am sure it will work out in some way! Thankyou for all the tips, now you've made me wanna go there even more!! XD

Wow..vegan is really strict, i hardly manage to live without eating meat, without cheese i couldnt live..really good that you manage to be a vegan! But even as a vegan you will be able to eat a looot (and not constantly soja stuff). You also have corn or vegetable burgers as most countries have, but i think Israel is most famous for its 'borekas', crunchy dough filled with pretty much everything, mushrooms, shmashed potatoes, vegetables so on. You can find them fresh in every bakery and you will love them! Israel is really a food country, they also eat loads of meat (fish is rather expensive), but they use also so many vegetables and prepair them in different ways, you will be just fine..and of course you will enjoy Israel anyway, even if the food sucks

Yes, I'm sure I will
The food culture seems very exciting. And since I looove falafel and vegetables in any form, I think I'll be fine
