Help! 7 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Hello,

My name is Tricia and I am a sophomore at Michigan State University in the United States. I am taking a course on Middle Eastern Studies and I am doing my final project on popular music in Israel. I would like to ask any Israeli interested if they could answer some questions for me. Anything at all would be helpful. Thanks!

1.) First name?
2.) Age?
3.) Who would you say is the most popular Israeli musician right now among the 18-25 crowd? What genre of music does this artist perform?
4.) What genres of music are the most popular?
5.) Do you go to a lot of concerts? If so, what are some recent concerts you attended?
6.) Is the music you listen to main-stream?
7.) Do listen to any music not in the main-stream? If so, describe the genre.
8.) Are American artists popular in Israel?
9.) How has popular music changed over the years? Is the genre that was popular 10 years ago still popular today?
9.) Are there many music festivals in Israel?
10.) What kind of music do they play at the clubs, college parties, bars, etc.?

Thanks so much for your time!

Hey Tricia, seems like you have chosen a nice subject to do research on! Would be nice if you could post your final paper here, i would surely like to read what you discovered!
I dont like to give to much private info on the internet (sorry ), but here are some answers to your other questions:

3. Hmm hard to say, i guess every genre has its most popular artists. Sarit Hadad and Eyal Golan from Oriental music. Ninet Tayeb, Harel Moyal, Harel Skaat for the younger pop generation of Kochav Nolad. Miri Mesika, Keren Peles and Aya Korem for the more adult pop sound from Rimon School. Mosh Ben Ari, Din Din Aviv more World Music. Hadag Nachash, Subliminal and the Tact family for the hiphop genre. But even Rita and Shlomo Artzi, as the 'older' artist do very well, although i think only Rita is more popular among the 18-25 crowd.
4. Hmm..i guess Pop, Rock and Oriental.
5. If im in Israel i try to go to as much concerts as possible. Unfortunately last summer was the last time. I attend most of the concerts that are organized in the summer vacation, which are many!
6. A combination of mainstream and less mainstream.
7. Yes, i think some Oriental artists are not in the mainstream, although they are very popular and so im one of the people that listens to the less mainstream oriental artists.
8.Yes, although not superior.
9. I think that the older genres are still popular, but that many new genres have been added to it throughout time. I guess the international music scene had influence, but also Kochav Nolad (star is born) had a big influence on the new wave of popular artists.
10. Yes, i think so (if i compare it to the country i live in). The local municipalities spend quite some money on organizing festivals at different places.
11. Hmm i guess it depends on the club or bars? Some the trance/dance music, others more hip-hop/R&B, and i guess some are focused more on the international music scene and others the more national music.

Okey, i hope this will help you out a bit! It would be nice if some of the other visitors of this forum would answer your questions, unfortunately the majority of the members are not very active. Good luck with the research!

Hi Tricia,
I think you have come to the right website to ask about Israeli Music, If you will also check out this website A bit more deeper you will get A more clear idea about the Israeli Music and its artists, now regarding the questions you have asked.

1 & 2.Just like Chosen has written I prefer not to write personal id on the web.

3.There are many artists that are popular among this age group, there isnt one single artist that stands above the rest, I also think that Chosen has covered most of the current popular singers.

4. The most popular gerne is probably Oriental, the music of this gerne is usually Happy music, music that is played A lot at weddings, bar mitzvahs, private parties etc. Pop and Rock music and also Hip Hop are not far behind.

5. I don't go A lot to concerts but there are many Free Concerts in Israel, especially concerts that are aranged by City Halls of each town. next week is Pesach after the last day of Pesach my Home Town has already organized A concert with Eyal Golan And Lior Narkis, the concert is like most of the concerts, free!!
next month you also have the israeli 60th Independence Day and every year you have tons of concerts with all of the Israeli artists all over the country.

6. I guess so, as Pop, Rock etc music is all main stream nowdays.

7. Like I mentioned above, most gernes nowdays are main stream.

8. American artists are very popular in Israel, they are more popular than even many of the western country, you should also remember that Isarel is A western country with all that goes with it, including tons of music channels on the tv (all the mtv channels), and tons of radio stataions.

9. There are many music festivals in Israel, also like Chosen mentioned, many are organized by the city halls. these music festivals take place usually in the Summer or at special occasions, for example the soon coming Independence Day, A day at which you can see all of your favorite artists performing.

10. Like most countries in the world there are various types of clubs/pub's/bar's/disco's, different with different themes that play the music style they are built on, so you can find clubs/bar's with each and every kind/style/gerne of music, all depends in what you like, we have it all!!

Wishing you and everyone at Kikar-Israel A lovely weekend
