Yoav Itzchak was born on the 8th of June 1958 in Rosh Ha Ain and still lives there. He also plays soccer there, which is his hobby, in one of the local amateur teams in his community. Yoav is married and has one daughter. Yoav is in the Israeli music scene for almost 30 years now. He loved singing as a kid and at the high school he was the lead singer of the schools band. He is not only a singer but also a composer and a lyrics writer. He started his musical career at the age of 20. Back then he use to be a back up singer to the popular singers of that era. Singers like Zohar Argov, Daklon, Avner Gadasi and others. Slowly but steadily Yoav started making a good reputation for himself as a singer and eventually became one of the most wanted and popular singers in oriental music clubs and among the oriental music lovers.
He released his first album at the age of 21 under the supervision of his friend and manager at that time, a friend that later died. The album was called Thoughts and it wasn’t a commercial album, but never the less showed the singing talent of the young Yoav.
It's hard to believe, but his first solo professional album was released only 12-13 years after starting his musical career. This album was also his national breakthrough. It happened during the gulf war period in 1991 when he was already 32-33 years old. The album, that was called A Time To Forgive, became an instant hit. The theme song from the album was called as the album and it had lots of success and marked the rise of Yoav to a status of a star.
His next album came out in the following year 1992 and was called Where Is Everyone Going. The album didn’t become a success as the previous one. Yoav said that he didn’t work on the album as much as he wished to, because of the tragic death by accident of his friend and agent Yehoram Khatuca.
Yoav continued working hard and released his third album in 1993, which was called Longings. The title was of course speaking about his yearning to his missing friend. The album had mild success. It had one big hit that was dedicated to his friend, which was called as the title of the album Longings. The song was written and composed by Yoav and marked the start of his way back to the top as an artist.
His forth album that came out in 1995 was called Let Me Go and it was a big success. The album contained several hits that were played non stop on radio stations and did very well on the Israeli charts. Yoav received great critics from the music industry about it. The biggest hit from it was called Angel Face. It was a happy uplifting song with a happy melody. It’s a song that is still played till today at weddings and Bar Mitzvahs. Another hit from it was the song Let Me Go, which had Indian music in it.
After returning to his previous status as a star he slowed down and started collecting material for his next album that came out only 3 years after his very successful album. The album, that came out in 1998, was called Half Of The Crown. The album was a happy but a more mature album. It was noticed that Yoav had put lots of effort in this album and the 40 year old artist brought all his experience into this album. The album had success, not like the previous one but it kept him with rest of the top Israeli stars. What it showed more was that Yoav makes fine albums, also if the album isn’t a big success in the market he maintains high quality through his career and takes out only quality albums.
The following year was a busy year for Yoav. He was again on the top, had lots of demand for performances and shows all over the country and released several albums in 1999. It was his most busy year since the beginning of his career.
The first album was a collection and was called Angel Face The Collection. It had medleys and mixes of all his famous hits on it. He also took out an album that was made of Israeli famous songs from the time the country was born, folk songs, children’s songs and so on. This album was called You’ll See, You’ll See (like the famous Israeli folk song of Neomi Shemer). This album that came out in 1999 was received well by the fans and the music industry and it sounded different from the music that was produced those days. Later that year he also took out an album called On Top Of The World. The album had many happy songs and was a success. Songs like Give Me A Hug Little Girl and Till The End Of The Summer (duet With Shlomi Shabat) were played on the radio stations and sold well in the shops.
At the end of 1999 the beginning of 2000 Yoav released an album that became a smashing hit, a best seller. Some of the songs had lots of success in the charts and he even captured the number one spot on many charts for many weeks. The album was called A Collection Of Duets, Two Of Us Singing. The album had 11 songs, each song Yoav Itzchak sang with another famous artist, like Shlomi Shabat, Gidi Gov, Pablo Rozenberg, Zehava Ben, Shoshana Damari, Aviva Avidan, Liora and more. The song that had the most success and topped many charts was the duet with Pablo Rozenberg. It was a slow melodic song called Little Girl, which is still played on the radio stations. This song also marked him and made him a main stream singer and not only an oriental singer. The hit opened up new crowds of fans for him.
Yoav his next album called The Rain In Your Eyes, which was the 11th album, came out in 2001. The album continued his success. Also this album contained many happy, spirit uplifting songs and few melodic slow songs.
His 12th album called To Respect And Share came out in 2004. On the albums cover his daughter Gali appears with him. His daughter also sang with him the duet called Mi Amor. The album is made out of Card Board, it’s a continuance of Yoavs passion to Indian music. As Yoav says, that he noticed that many CD’s that are released in India use to have this kind of covers. On this album there are also 3 songs that were added as a bonus, 2 of them are duets with Haim Moshe, one of them is a song that’s sung on Yom Kippur prayers in the Synagogues. In 2006 Yoav released his latest 13th album (if you count in the amateur album he made) called Like Chocolate, in his long musical career. The first single from it came out late January which is called Every Day That’s Born You Return. Yoav says it’s a romantic, love song that’s perfect for the winter days and good for his main audience that are mostly women, that love romantic songs. The album is already showing signs of success.
Yoav Itzchak has participated during the years in many musical projects and sang on many albums of other artists too. He has also composed and written songs for countless singers. He says he likes to sing about things people go through in life, things like Feelings, Fears and mostly Love, that’s also one of the reasons says Yoav that his bigger audience in the public are women.
Yoav says that through out his career, he is influenced a lot by Indian music when he writes or composes. Albums like A Time To Forgive, as the following 3-4 albums had lots of touches of Indian music and some songs were sang with music he took from known Indian Songs.
