Shlomi Saranga

Biography

Image Shlomi Saranga was born on the 7th of October 1973 in Tel-Aviv. He grew up in a musical house, to a Spanish father and a Turkish mother and 3 sisters. His father, a business man, was also a part-time musical manager, especially for young artists that use to sing in the Greek night clubs in old Yafo. His sister was a lyric writer and has written some songs even for Zohar Argov. Shlomi's uncle was a keyboardist of Greek and oriental music.

After his fathers death, when he was 15 years old, his uncle taught him to play the keyboard and he use to accompany his uncle to many of his performances. With such a musical background it was rather natural for him to become familiar with Greek and oriental music and eventually become a singer himself. At a young age the talented Shlomi spent a year in Greece learning more about Greek music and performing in clubs over there.

He took out his first solo album in 1995 and in his third album in 1996 he had some success and started to become popular with his album called Greek Scent. This album also made him one of the most requested and popular Greek language singers in Israel. In the following years he took out 3 more albums that had mild success. Shlomi's big breakthrough came with the album he released in the year 2000 called A Greek Celebration With Shlomi Saranga. This album took time to catch in the market, but in the year 2001 it became his best selling album so far and made him very famous. The album has sold over 120,000 copies and reached a triple platinum status.

In the year 2003 Shlomi recorded his most popular song so far he did. He recorded it together with Moshik Afia, a famous oriental singer, which became a close friend of his. The song was from Moshik Afias album and it was titled Sweet Dream. It was a soft melodic Greek song that Shlomi Saranga already sang in the past in Greek. This time it was a Hebrew\Greek version of the song and the slow love song became a very big hit. Sweet Dream was played non-stop on the tv and radio stations.

Since then Shlomi Saranga has taken out a couple of more albums. In 2004 the album Old Time was released, which was also a success and many songs from it were composed and written by famous musicians, like Yehuda Poliker and Ethnix.

Lately Shlomi is busy collecting material for a new album. Since he got famous he is also participating in activities beside music. For example in the year 2000 he acted and sang in an Israeli movie called Desperado Square. In the last 2 years Shlomi is one of the home models of a big and famous clinic in Israel for hair removal and posters appear all over Israel on street Billboards. Of course he hasn’t lost his passion for music as he performs currently not only in Israel but also in the United States and Europe in front of Israeli, Jewish, Greek and even Armenian communities. He is one of the singers that are responsible for making the Greek music and Greek singing a main stream genre in Israel  and says he is proud of what he has achieved and wants to keep on doing so.

He admires Yehuda Poliker and Glikeria the Greek singer. Beside his responsibilities as a husband and father, Shlomi likes to work out in the gym on his free time.
