Biography Shiri Maimon was born on the 17th of May 1981 in Haifa, and grew up in the neighboring town of Kiriyat Haim. In 2000 Shiri was called up for her National Service, and was invited to join the Air Force Entertainment Group traveling the length and breadth of the country to entertain the troops. After the Army, Shiri decided to move to Eilat, which is Israel’s major 'tourist’ town and, as a result, a source of employment for many singers and dancers in the hotels and clubs. She worked there for a year as a singer and dancer. In 2003 Shiri auditioned for A Star Is Born, Israel’s version of Idols. She became the first runner-up and gained tremendous popularity with the public. As a result she was one of the few artists to be signed to a recording contract by Helicon Records. Beside having a lead part, singing and acting in the children’s musical ‘Mamamia’, she released her first single Until You’ll Understand Me on November 2004. The second single was The Silence That Remains, the song that was selected to represent Israel in the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest. As a participant in Kdam-Eurovision; the Israeli national selection for their entry into the Eurovision Song Contest 2005, she was not the favorite to win. However when the event took place in Jerusalem her performance of the song The Silence That Remains scored 116 out of 120 and so she won the right to represent Israel in the Eurovision Song Contest. Despite the punters' opinion of her, she made it through the semi-final and was greeted in Kiev for the final of the contest. At one stage, Maimon pull backed from suggestions that segments of the song should be performed in English in the final. However the Israeli delegation decided that, considering the result of the songs that were not in English before her had done worse than those not, that Shiri Maimon should sing her song half in Hebrew and half in English. Finally, she was placed 4th in the contest with 154 points (including the maximum 12 points, awarded by Monaco). Her first self-titled album was released in 2005. The reviews were mixed, but mostly favorable. Her album became a bestseller and was credited 'Gold' certification (20,000 copies sold) in March 2005. Since March 2006, Maimon has been starring in the new soap opera Yeladot Ra'ot (Bad Girls) on the Israeli music channel 24. Maimon plays the role of Maya Gold, a talented singer and star of the Monokol record company, who is trying hard to keep her career and relationship together and to care for her brother who has a drug problem.
