With the history of his famous family behind him, Aviv Geffen has become a special artist on his own. Developing his talent at a young age, he soon became popular and famous. Everyone noticed him with his extravagant looks and his fight for peace, but it was his music and his lyrics that made him one of the most popular artists of Israel.

Biography

Aviv Geffen was born on the 10th of may 1973 in the Tel Hashomer Hospital in Tel-Aviv. He comes from a famous family where his father is known as one of the most important poets in Israel. Other family members are Ezer Weizman, who was the 7th president of Israel, and Moshe Dayan, who was an important military man and statesman.

At an early age Aviv Geffen started writing songlyrics and taught himself to play 6 instruments. He was being noticed with his band The Mistakes as something different than the mainstream Israeli pop at the time. As a rock singer, he became known for his controversial lyrics and behavior; and also for an androgynous appearance reminiscent of David Bowie.

His Music was influenced by British and American artists of the ‘60s like Bob Dylan and The Beatles, who saw their Music as an instrument of social revolution.

His ideals were noticable in comparison to the history of his family members. This also caused him to get criticised for not serving in the IDF, even though he was actually excused for medical reasons.

Aviv Geffen released his First album when he was only 18 years and became instantly a hit. His lyrics are bases on matters as love, loneliness, alcohol, drugs and peace. Peace got special attention on the 4th of November 1995 when Aviv Geffen performed at a peace rally in Tel Aviv, where prime minister Yitzhak Rabin was assassinated. He was the last person to embrace Rabin after singing the song I Cry For You, which ended as a national peace symbol for the youth of Israel.

At the year 2000 Aviv Geffen was invited to collaborate on several performances together with Porcupine Tree in Israel. He became a friend of the frontman Steven Wilson and made him listen to his music and lyrics. Since then they are working together and form the band Blackfield. In 2004 their self-titled debut album Blackfield was released. The album got positive reviews world wide and mark Aviv Geffen and Steven Wilson as a great team.
